Cordless Blower Battery Care: More Runtime, Longer Life

Simple habits that get more minutes out of every charge and keep your 20V lithium-ion batteries healthy for years.

By the ZAVRAX team ·

The battery is the heart of a cordless tool. Treat it well and it gives you more minutes per charge and more seasons of use. Here is what actually makes a difference.

Use only the power you need

Runtime depends mostly on speed. The ZAVRAX 20V MAX blower runs up to 20 minutes per battery at max speed, and considerably longer at medium and low speed. Use the variable trigger instead of holding it at full power, and keep high speed for wet leaves.

Swap, don't wait

The kit comes with two 20V MAX 3.0 Ah batteries. Put one on the charger as soon as you start working with the other. A full charge takes over 2.5 hours on the included wall charger, so starting early keeps you going.

Charge it right

  • Take the battery off the tool and plug it into the wall charger. Red light means charging; green means full.
  • Charge indoors, somewhere dry, at room temperature. Let a hot battery cool down for 15 minutes before charging.
  • Unplug it once the light turns green, and do not leave batteries charging unattended for long stretches.
  • Use the ZAVRAX charger. Mixing batteries and chargers between brands is not safe.

Mind the temperature

Lithium-ion batteries lose capacity in the cold, so runtime drops in winter. Keep the spare battery somewhere warm and swap it in. Heat is worse than cold for battery life: never leave batteries in a hot car or in direct sun.

Storing it for the off-season

  • Store batteries partly charged (two or three bars on the gauge), not full and not empty.
  • Keep them off the tool, in a cool, dry place.
  • Top them up every couple of months so they never sit completely empty for long.

Know when something is wrong

A battery that gets very hot, swells, leaks or smells burnt must not be used or charged. Stop, keep it away from anything flammable and contact support. A battery that simply gives a few fewer minutes after years of use is normal aging.

What "20V MAX" means

"20V MAX" is the industry way of stating the maximum initial voltage of the battery with no load. Under load it works at a nominal 18 V. It is the same convention the big tool brands use.
